As of Oct. 4, 2018, we are officially the new residents of 830 N Avery Street! Your House Corp has been working toward this for some time, with more than one speedbump along the way, but we now own a newer property with 15 bedrooms, a grad-student suite, 4 floors, a basketball court, and a large enough deck to comfortably accommodate the entire chapter. Best of all: the property allows for a better financial model than 611 (all those bedrooms). The undergraduates will move into the new house this Spring, and 611 W. Adams will be sold - most likely to a younger fraternity.
Now, we need to get 830 N Avery move-in ready. To that end, we are calling on all alumni to give your time and money in the following ways:
We've scheduled 3 weekends over 2 months to get as much done as we can. All are encouraged to come; and, yes, you can bring relatives/friends/spouses. The dates are:
Nov. 2-4 (patching walls, cleaning, removing dilapidated furnishings, and removing "DSP" from everything)
Dec. 7-9 (replacing carpets, fixing smaller items in every room, relocating the White Cross)
Jan. 18-20 (primarily painting and cleaning)
There is much we will have to contract out, and we can put every pair of hands to use on the work weekends, but it would be of great help if anyone has skill-sets to contribute the following:
- Patch drywall
- Lay carpet
- Plumbing - especially install toilets, sinks
- Offer a discount on 6+ toilets (capable of handling frequent use)
- Offer a discount on carpet squares (large quantities, not leftovers from home improvements)
More than anything, we need donations. We simply must contract out many repairs, and while we may be able to find materials at discounted prices; we still need to pay for them.
So, please, consider giving to House Corp. Your donations are routed securely through PayPal and are exclusively used for maintenance, upkeep, repairs, and renovations to the chapter property in Macomb, IL.
