Kelsey Reed Crowned Miss Macomb 2010
The 51st annual Miss Macomb Scholarship Pageant was held Sunday night at the Macomb High School Fellheimer Auditorium. This year’s event included six contestants vying for the title of Miss Macomb 2010.
Featured at this year’s pageant were Miss Macomb 2009, Jennifer Witkowski, and Miss Illinois 2009, Erin O’Connor. Also appearing in the show were emcee, Rick Bulger, Ali Nicole Browning, Miss Macomb / Miss Illinois Princess 2009, Sadee Anselment and Miss Macomb 2007, Jillian Weingart.
Kelsey Reed, a 21 year old junior majoring in Communications at Western Illinois University, was crowned Miss Macomb 2010. Ms. Reed is from Quincy and is the daughter of Kevin and Linda Reed. Kelsey’s Platform is “Heart Health and Disease Prevention for Every Generation” and performed a contemporary jazz dance to the song “Heartburn” by Alicia Keys for her talent presentation.
Her hostesses were Babs Becker and Nancy Dobey and she was sponsored by Jefferson House and Citizens Bank, a Division of Morton Community Bank. Miss Macomb 2010 was awarded with a $4500 scholarship.First Runner-up was awarded to Jocelyn Garrett, a 19 year old sophomore at Western Illinois University majoring in English. Ms. Garrett is from Schaumburg and is the daughter of Steve and Nicole Garrett. Jocelyn’s Platform is “Hospice” and sang Susan Boyle’s rendition of “Wild Horses” for her talent presentation. Her hostesses were Beverly Clause and Marge Foster and she was sponsored by Buffalo Wild Wings and Wal-Mart. The First Runner-up was awarded a $450 scholarship.
Second Runner-up was Madelyn Schluter from Macomb. Madelyn is an 18 year old senior at Macomb High School and is the daughter of Keith and Rebecca Schluter. Madelyn’s Platform was “Bettering Nutrition in Schools” and played “From the Shores of the Mighty Pacific” composed by Herbert Clark, on the soprano saxophone for her talent presentation. Madelyn’s hostess was Lana Markham and she was sponsored by McDonough District Hospital and MidAmerica National Bank. The Second Runner-up was awarded a $250 scholarship.The Altrusa Club of Macomb has for many years given a scholarship to the contestant with the best Platform Essay. The Platforms are judged by a Committee of the Altrusa Club and the top three are chosen and given to the judges of the Pageant. These are voted on by the Judges before interviews. The decision is based solely on the Essay and not any other competition. Kelsey Reed was voted as having the best Essay and was awarded a trophy and a $250 scholarship. The two runner-ups for the best Essay were Madelyn Schluter and Allison Fawcett and were both awarded a $50 scholarship.
The three non-finalists that competed in this year’s pageant were Brittany Ivancich, Kathryn Turner and Allison Fawcett. Each non-finalist was award a $150 scholarship.
Marta Clugston and Lana Markham served as Executive Assistants to this year’s Pageant. Bob and Nancy Foote serve as executive directors of the Pageant.
